​The Rhode Island Witches Guild was created in 2022 in response to the overwhelming reaction of the first Witches Dance performance at the Wickford Horribles Parade. 
​In October 2021, 147 witches paraded through the village, dancing to the beat
of the Providence Drum Troupe and recorded music, 
celebrating Samhain (the Halloween season).
Why you ask? Because it's fun - isn't that enough?​
The Guild is comprised of multiple Chapters around the state. 
Each Chapter is responsible to host events in their town but are invited
​to join in the festivities wherever witches gather.

Our Story

The History

Every year, women around the globe get together to celebrate the seasons, host gatherings, dance, and have a good time. But at the end of April, the women of Wolfshäger Hexenbrut (in English: The Wolf Hunter's Coven), located in Wolfshagen im Harz, Germany, do something a little different. They get together to celebrate Walpurgis, a holiday celebrating fertility, and celebrations include lots of dancing, foods, and drinking, which usually occurs 
every year on April 30th. 
 
In 2016, their celebrations included a choreographed dance. 
​The dance went viral once posted to YouTube - After their video took off, it made waves all around the world,
becoming particularly popular with US-based groups.
 In America, the dances seem to have been scheduled not in
honor ​of Walpurgis, but rather, for Samhain,
​also known as Halloween.

Rhode Island Chapters

In response to the first Witches Dance held in Wickford
on October 31, 2021, the RI Witches Guild was formed to
encourage witches (and witch lovers)
all over Rhode Island to host their own events.
There are currently 4 official Guild Chapters in RI
​(Providence, Wickford,  Newport and Warwick).
